Elizabeth
Buckler Gale is a local historian and author. She was born in Burton
Bradstock into a background of fishing and farming and grew up there
during the Second World War and acquired the greatest admiration
for the bravery and sacrifice of the American servicemen.
Her parents
befriended US Army soldiers who gave her a small puppy, as they
left to take part in the D-Day landings.
An illustrated
hand-made tenth birthday card and personalised poem presented to
her is a treasured possession.
