"This
Good Work"
By Fiona Taplin
A
History Of Education In Bridport 1238 - 2000
How
did such a relatively poor community such as Bridport manage to
build and fund so many schools?
Who gave the money - and why? Where was Bridport's first Grammar
School?
In this book, Fiona Taplin sets out to track down the answers to
these and many similar questions. The result illuminates an aspect
of local history often neglected by historians. Schools, their pupils
and teachers, often merit no more than a chapter at most.
This book sets out to redress the balance. It traces the histories
of the many schools that have served the communities of Bridport
and Allington - and their neighbour parishes of Bothenhampton, Bradpole
and Pymore -from the middle-ages to the present day.
