BRIDPORT
MAIN STREET
The road is
straight, the road is wide,
And the pavements too along each side.
And the traffics fast or the traffics slow,
Depending where it wants to go.
And the wind blows fast and the wind blows free,
Past Town Hall clock and Old Gundry.
And up and down the people walk
Or the people stand or the people talk.
On Market Day the stalls appear
And all day long the pubs had beer.
But the Market went and the cattle too
And theres no more beer served after two.
But the traders come, still full of hope
And place their stalls where they once made rope.
And the people walk and the people buy
And the Town Hall clock notes time go by.
Then summers here and the tourists too
And they make life hard for me and you
As we push through the crowd and heave a sigh
And the Town Hall clock still strikes on high.
The winter comes and the snow falls white
And the street is lit by the Christmas light,
And the people shop or they hurry by
And the Town Hall clock says time doth fly.
