THE MERRY GO ROUND

When I was milking twelve cows
The ends, they wouldn’t meet.
“You want more cows” the NAAS man said
“They’ll serve you just a treat.”

When I was milking fifteen cows
The ends still didn’t join.
“You want more cows” the NAAS man said
“They’ll put you right in time.

The numbers grew, the acres too,
But the ends remained perverse.
“You want more cows” the NAAS man said.
It became a bloody curse.

The bulk tank came, I filled it up,
But still it didn’t do.
“Another tank” the NAAS man said,
Sez I, “I’ve had enough of you.

Too many cows and too much milk,
Too much work - no time to think.
One step forward, one step back.
What is the point of doing that?

How did I get into this state?
Life never handed me a plate,
But I’ve been going round and round.
Must get my feet back on the ground.

Stop this milking lark at last,
Stop my life running so fast,
Get some time to stop and think
(It almost took me to the brink!)

No more the tankers early call,
No more scrubbing down the wall,
Time to relax? What a vain hope!
It’s just like swinging on a rope.

“More calves” the man from the ADAS said.
Now I’ve calves running round my head.
I suppose advisers have a place,
But, how to get out of this race?
