Harry Poole's paternal grandfather left the Navy in 1890, having served on the Red Sea when Gordan was at Karthoum. There was little work in Dorset at the time and, in common with many from the West Country he went to South Wales and worked in the mines. Thus Harry was born and educated in Cardiff. He left school at 16 and became a farm pupil in Devonshire. In 1941 he volunteered for the RAF and in the next five years he served in Bomb Disposal, in the Persian Gulf helping to assemble Spitfires for the Russians, refueled aircraft for the invasion of Greece and for the last two years served in RAF Armored Cars. This was a unit created by Lawrence of Arabia in 1916 and taken over by the RAF in 1923. Demobbed in 1946 he ran his late Father's pub in Beaminster and in 1948 he bought Loscombe Farm. Two years later he moved to Kings Farm, Powerstock which he left in 1981. Whilst at Kings he became in turn Chairman of Melplash Discussion Club, the NFU in Bridport and the village Harvest Supper Committee.
In the following year he joined Morey and Son of Bridport as assistant to the Auctioneer where he helped on a part time basis. For ten years of this period he was Bridport Town Crier, giving this up to have a heart by-pass.
His family tree on his paternal grandmother's side traces his family to one Thomas Symes of Porestock, yeoman, died in 1616.
Apart from the four Powerstock booklets he has written two novels and two plays, none of which have found a publisher.
