Michael Harvey, 73, has created 12 colourful images featuring some of the best loved sights in and around Bridport and West Bay. Included in the collection of uniquely styled cards are the Town Hall, The Chantry, Colmers Hill and the harbour. This is a new Venture for Michael, a letter carver and graphic designer by profession he was for 14 years a member of the Royal Mint Advisory Committee, chaired until his retirement by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Michael received an MIBE in the 2001 New Year Honours for his services to art. He has lived in and around Bridport since 1955, having moved to the area from Ashtead, Surrey. In the early years he assisted Reynolds Stone - an engraver from Litton Cheney - to carve inscriptions into slate, stone and wood. From 1961 he concentrated on designing lettered book jackets, producing more than 1,500 for leading publishers in England and Holland. Michael taught
graphic design at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design for
over 20 years and was a governor there. He also lectured for eight years
in the Department of Typography and Graphic The new book of postcards is now on sale at The Book Shop in South Street, Bridport. |
