Pequot
Plantation
The Story of an Early Colonial Settlement
by

(This
book has local interest for the Bridport area of the UK)
I have recently published a book entitled
Pequot Plantation which tells the true story of the founding of
an early colonial settlement in New England during the 1600s. This
is British history as much as it is American history. Moreover,
it follows the lives of 10 people who emigrated from various parts
of England to Massachusetts Bay Colony during the 1630's and eventually
made their way to the new settlement called Pequot Plantation. All
of these people plus their spouses were born in England.
In particular. John Gallop, Sr., his wife Christobel Brushett
and John Gallop, Jr. would generate interest in Dorset & Somerset
as they were born in the Bridport / Mosterton area. Father and son
were important participants in the Pequot War of 1635/1636. In 1675.
Captain John Gallop, Jr. was killed in the Great Swamp Fight during
King Phillip's War. This conflict with the Indians was the blodiest
war ever fought by Americans. Pequot Plantation not only relates
the struggle to establish a new settlement but shows its interaction
with historic events in New England as well as England's drive for
world dominance.
