Miss Jane by Brad Watson
I’ve not come across Brad Watson before and was delighted with this read. Set within a powerful evocation of farming and the sheer toughness of the rural life in early 20th century America, it is a tale of family, friendships and kindnesses. It is beautifully written through the eyes of a young child with all the joys, confusions and hurts that go with learning about life. Underlying the whole is an exploration of “difference” and disability and what it takes to simply be who you are, both physically and spiritually.
I intend to read more by this guy.
