How I Live Now by Reg Rosoff
This Guardian Fiction Prizewinner book centers around fifteen-year-old Daisy, sent to live with estranged cousins in the countryside for the summer. Finding love and herself, Daisy’s life is thrown into turmoil when the country is hit by the effects of war that leave even the furthest reaches unprepared and broken. Separated from her newfound family and pushed to survivalist mode, Daisy embarks on a journey of heartbreak, hope and loss. This novel is a cult favourite, and for good reason – not suitable for young teens.
